How the billing works
- What counts as a segment?
- 160 GSM-7 characters, or 70 if the body contains characters that force UCS-2. The API returns the segment count before you commit to a scheduled send, and usage is reported the same way.
- Is there a minimum commitment?
- Not on Growth. You pay for what leaves the gateway, billed monthly in arrears. Operator plans carry a committed volume because the binds are reserved for you.
- Do failed messages cost anything?
- A message rejected at the gateway is free. A message submitted to a carrier that then fails downstream is charged, because the network charges us. The reason code tells you which happened.
- How is sender registration billed?
- Registration is included on Growth and Operator. Networks that levy their own registration fee are passed through at cost and itemised on the invoice.
